The Mission of the Department of Parks and Tourism is:

  • to provide optimum quality state park recreation facilities conveniently located and in sufficient quantity to meet the needs of all state citizens and visitors;
  • to provide adequate facilities and skilled leadership for developing and safeguarding natural resources;
  • to enhance the economic impact of tourism in the state and increase the state's tax base;

Benefits

Our Department offers an excellent benefit package including immediate accrual of annual and sick leave, eleven paid holidays, and a noncontributory retirement plan. Our Department pays the major portion of medical health insurance for full-time employees and offers several medical plans from which to choose. These plans range from an indemnity plan with a PPO option to HMO's.

Other benefits include maternity leave, court and jury duty leave, military leave and a catastrophic illness leave program as well as Family and Medical leave. Employees with our Department may choose to participate in a deferred compensation plan and various options for life insurance, accident insurance, cancer care and intensive care insurance. Employees are also able to participate in the Arkansas Cafeteria Plan which is a program designed to allow an employee to pay for group health and life insurance premiums, dependent day care and out-of-pocket medical care costs tax free. All employees of our Department are also covered under workers' compensation and unemployment insurance.

Library Technical Assistant III (History Commission)

Location: Arkansas History Commission, Little Rock, AR
Salary: $20,954 plus benefits

Pay Grade: 14

This position provides general library services in the Arkansas History Commission’s public research room, including registration and orientation of patrons, and assisting visitors with the selection and use of archival materials such as microfilm, microfiche, books and pamphlets. Other duties include processing and cataloging library and microfilm materials, preparing indexes, performing data entry, making photocopies, maintaining records, assisting patrons with historical and genealogical research, and other duties as assigned. A detail-oriented team player with experience in an archival or museum setting is preferred. Applicant must be able to work Saturdays.

Secretary II (History Commission)

This position works under direct supervision and provides general administrative support for the staff of the Arkansas History Commission. Job duties include data entry, copying and distributing materials, compiling reports, answering phones and taking messages, working in AASIS (Arkansas Administrative Statewide Information System), filing and retrieval of documents and books, and completing special projects. Desk Clerk /Document Examiner I (Daisy)

This position is responsible for all duties related to the visitor center’s front desk operations. Applicant may assist with other duties, programs and activities as assigned. This position requires some travel within the state for training purposes. Excellent public relations skills are a must. Staff Development Specialist II

The Department of Parks & Tourism is seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual who will train and support our agency professionals from every corner of the state. Flexibility and team leader skills are a must. Applicant will provide staff training through technical and practical instruction, develop job aides, maintain employee training records and materials, update organization charts and assist with training solutions to ensure all regulatory requirements related to employees are met. This position will also provide some administrative support. The ideal candidate must have exceptional oral and written communications skills and be experienced with Microsoft Office. Frequent travel with overnight stay is necessary.
