Holiday Classics at Walton Arts Center
My holiday spirit seems to blow in with the first blustery day of November and a cold spell that sends me searching my closet for winter jackets. It’s easy to get excited about Thanksgiving and Christmas fun after that, especially with these upcoming theater events in Fayetteville to look forward to.
White Christmas
Walton Arts Center will present Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. Adapted from the classic 1954 Paramount Pictures film starring Bing Crosby, the Broadway stage production this heartwarming tale is about Army-vet nightclub entertainers Bob Wallace and Phil Davis as they follow singing-sister act Betty and Judy to their performance at a rustic Vermont inn. The boys soon discover the inn is owned by their WWII commanding officer, General Waverly, who is in dire financial straits after unusually sunny weather has made for a lack of visitors at the inn. The showbiz buddies stage a magical show to bring business back to the inn, while finding love along the way. The show features classic Irving Berlin songs such as “Blue Skies”, “How Deep is the Ocean”, “I Love a Piano” and “White Christmas.”
The show will have seven performances running from Tuesday, Nov. 19 – Sunday, Nov. 24. Tickets range from $35-$73 and can be purchased by calling the Box Office at 479.443.5600 or by visiting www.waltonartscenter.org.
In in the holiday spirit of giving, for every ticket purchased for Irving Berlin’s White Christmas from Nov. 1-16, Walton Arts Center will donate $1 toward the United Way of NWA.

A Christmas Carol
An adaptation of one of the world’s best holiday tales, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, will be presented by TheatreSquared. Directed by Morgan Hicks (Noises Off, Boeing-Boeing), this world premiere stage adaptation will feature eight professional actors performing more than 40 roles.
In A Christmas Carol, heartless and shrewd Ebeneezer Scrooge spends his days amassing a fortune and scorning the company of others in grimy Victorian London. On Christmas Eve, he is deeply unsettled by the appearance of four ghosts at his bedside who warn him that a dire fate is in store unless his life changes course — and soon. Charles Dickens’s classic tale of redemption, rediscovered each year by generations of families, is newly reimagined for the stage by TheatreSquared in a holiday gift for Arkansas audiences of every age and walk of life.
Performances are scheduled for December 5-29, 2013, in the 175-seat Studio Theatre at Walton Arts Center’s Nadine Baum Studios in Fayetteville. Tickets range from $22-36 ($10/under 30) and may be purchased by calling the Walton Arts Center Box Office at 479-443-5600 or visiting theatre2.org.
Performances are scheduled Thursdays at 7:30, Fridays at 7:30, Saturdays at 2 and 7:30, and Sundays at 2 and 7:30. The performance will run 90 minutes with no intermission and is suitable for all ages.
