On the radar: Bandit Run in Texarkana!
Editors Note: This event took place in 2017 and is an example of the type of interesting events that take place in Texarkana.
Are you a fan of the classic 1977 movie Smokey and the Bandit? The annual Bandit Run is a reenactment of the venture portrayed in the movie and follows the same route that “Bandit”, played by Burt Reynolds, and “Snowman”, portrayed by Jerry Reed, took in the movie. The event started in 2007 and a convoy of cars recreates the characters journey from Texarkana to Atlanta. Many participants in the event drive Trans Ams that resemble the car driven by Reynolds’ character
The start of the route will be in Texarkana and on June 17, the Four States Auto Museum will be the scene of a welcome party for the convoy. At the museum, which is located at 217 Laurel Street, there will be BBQ and music by the Pines Country Club Reunion Band. The cars that are part of the convoy, as well as Snowman’s truck, will also be on display for people to see.
The next day, Bandit Run participants will depart for their venture starting at 8:30 a.m. from North State Line near I-30. Those interested can watch them as they travel out of town escorted by police. For more details on the Bandit Run schedule, you can check out details here.
