Harrell Field/Camden Regional Airport/Camden Municipal Airport (CDH)
What to know
Along with Grider Field in Pine Bluff and Thompson-Robbins Field in Helena, Camden Army Air Field – also known as Harrell Field – was one of the contract flying fields utilized by the military during World War II. It was built in 1942 with a 4,800-foot turf runway. It was assigned to the United States Army Air Forces Gulf Coast Training Center and, initially, served as an overflow training facility for Kelly Field in San Antonio, Texas, which could only graduate 500 pilots annually. Today, the Camden facility is home to the Southern Arkansas University Tech Aviation Maintenance Technology program teaching students the skills necessary for obtaining FAA certification for careers in aircraft and avionics maintenance.
