Stuttgart Municipal Airport (SGT)
What to know
The United States Army Air Forces built what was then known as Army Air Forces Advanced Flying School in 1942 as part of its Pilot Training Program during World War II. Initially it hosted a glider pilot training school using Waco CG-4A gliders. In 1943, the airfield was transferred to the Southeast Training Command and redesignated as Stuttgart Army Air Field to train transport pilots using the Beechcraft AT-10 Wichita and the Cessna AT-17 Bobcat. The airfield ceased military operations in 1944 but continues to provide a landing location for C130J’s from the Little Rock Air Force Base. Today, the airport owned and operated by the city of Stuttgart.
